SOLO’s Passport to Leadership Seminar Series, 2005/2006


There are many new benefits to the SOLO/LEAD Passport to Leadership Series.
Please review the options below and click HERE for the complete schedule.

Instructions:

1. Pick up your Passport from the SOLO Center.
2. Print your name, local address, phone an student ID on the back of your Passport.
3. At the beginning of the workshop, identify the SOLO Center staff member who will stamp your Passport at the conclusion of each workshop.  The stamp will serve as verification of your attendance.
4. Be sure to sign in. This will start a personalized online Passport transcript. Your link and password will be emailed.
5. At the conclusion of each workshop, have your Passport stamped. Students who arrive late or leave early will not receive credit for attendance. Space is limited due to California Fire Code Laws, so try to arrive early.
6. Turn in completed passports no later than Friday, May 18, 2006.
7. Workshops may not be carried into the next academic year and there are no scheduled make-up presentations.

*LOOK FOR THE PINK CARD AND WIN!  The Princeton Review is hosting a drawing for a FREE Princeton Review course of your choice.  Completion of a Princeton Review information card at each workshop qualifies you as an entry into the drawing.

The drawing and presentation of certificates will be held a the SOLO Awards Banquet on Thursday, May 25, 2006.

Areas of Concentration:

General Leadership = (G)

If you are new to leadership development or to the Passport program, this is a wonderful opportunity to participate in a wide variety of workshops and enhance your interests in broad areas.  All of the workshops in this brochure fulfill the general leadership component and are coded (G) to assist you as you develop your leadership plan.
* Completion of 12 workshops earns a General Leadership certificate. Any workshop listed fulfills the requirements for this Area of Concentration.

Entrepreneurial Leadership = (E)

Starting, developing, and sustaining a business venture is an attractive alternative to the traditional career track. It¹s an opportunity to explore your passions, to lead your organization, and/or find intensely personal satisfaction in what you¹re doing. This track includes workshops with inspiring entrepreneurs in several sectors.
* Completion of 12 workshops coded (E) earns an Entrepreneurial Leadership certificate.

Organizational Leadership Track = (O)

This track helps you explore organizational dynamics and development, and also apply leadership and membership skills to the contexts with which you are currently involved ­ student organizations, student government, work and personal situations, volunteering commitments ­ or for your future life plans.
* Completion of 12 workshops coded (O) earns an Organizational Leadership certificate.

Social Action Leadership Track = (SA)

Social action includes all forms of community involvement such as charity, volunteer service and progressive social change. You will develop awareness of social issues in a global society, discover ways to contribute to a better world and be empowered with skills such as dialogue facilitation, public speaking, interpersonal communication and coalition building.

Workshops and Requirements for Leadership Certificate Areas of Concentration:

General Leadership Certificate
Any twelve Passport workshops Fall/Winter/Spring 05-06 to complete the General Leadership Certificate.

Entrepreneurial Leadership
Twelve Passport workshops Winter/Spring 05-06 coded (E) are required to have this Area of Concentration on your leadership certificate. Winter quarter workshops:
· Coming Up With an Idea for a Successful Business
· Entrepreneurial Ventures in the Biotechnology World
· From Rags to Riches: How I Made It and How You Can Too
· Presenting Your Idea to a Venture Capital Company
· Technology-Based Entrepreneurialism
· Unique Challenges of Entrepreneurship
· Women vs. Men: The Challenges for Each in Developing a Business

Organizational Leadership
Twelve Passport workshops Fall/Winter/Spring 05-06 coded (O) are required to have this Area of Concentration on your leadership certificate. Winter quarter workshops:
· EXCEL Leadership Conference
· Innovation and Change Strategies
· Organizational Culture
· Organizational Politics and Power
· Strategic Planning for Leadership
· Teamwork and Leading High Performance Teams
· Understanding Group Dynamics and Leading Effective Groups
· Using Effective Conflict Negotiation Strategies
· Using Information and Effective Communication Practices

Social Action Leadership
Completion of the Social Action Leadership Class OR twelve Passport workshops Fall/Winter/Spring 05-06 are required to have this Area of Concentration on your leadership certificate and must include:
*Social Action Community Involvement (Counts as 3 workshops) - This is the experiential component of the Social Action Leadership Certificate and involves completing 9 hours of volunteer service or progressive social
change activities.
*Social Action Reflection Session ­ A presentation of your learning from your community involvement.
*8 other workshops coded (SA). It¹s recommended that you include public speaking, dialogue facilitation, interpersonal skills, coalition building and social justice topics. Winter Quarter workshops:
· Crash Film Screening and Dialogue
· EXCEL Leadership Conference
· Go Global: Serve the World ­ International Volunteer and
Service Opportunities
· Intercultural Understanding
· Listen Up!
· Meeting & Dialogue Facilitation Skills
